Location: Bradford, Buttershaw / Hybrid Working (2-3 days office a week)

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join the Data team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire's water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region's health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. The data team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

Yorkshire Water has a significant data footprint and partnerships with global organisations like Microsoft, SAP, Databricks, and ESRI. Our data is spread across the county of Yorkshire, with over 1 million real time data points monitoring reservoirs, treatment facilities, pipework, and pumps. Data is key to optimising what we do and how we do it and planning for the future of Yorkshire.

Data roles at Yorkshire Water are all about leveraging value from our vast data estate, be it exploring problems using innovative data science approaches, developing robust technical solutions which are relied upon every day, or creating intuitive dashboards that aid in strategic decision-making; there's plenty of opportunities to utilise and develop your data skillsets whilst making a real impact on improving service to our customers and the environment.

Where you fit in:

As our Data Scientist you will be:

  • Responsible for the end-to-end delivery of cutting-edge Data Science solutions (e.g Machine Learning, Open Data & AI), from scoping, development & delivery.
  • Collaborating in cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are effectively delivered and incorporated into business process in a way that ensures benefits are maximised.
  • Responsible for advancing the company's understanding of performance, assets, customers and risk via data-driven insights.
  • Relied upon by the business (up to & including managerial level), as a subject-matter expert in respect to data analytics to help promote the data capability and provide training opportunities at all levels.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Qualified to a degree level in a subject with strong numerical focus in STEM subjects (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
  • Expert level in one of more of our core programming languages for Data Science (R, Python, SQL)
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Confident in taking a leadership role within cross-business working groups

You will also benefit from having:

  • Experience of developing Data Science solutions in a commercial context
  • Experience of working within cloud platforms and technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure)
  • Knowledge of software development frameworks & methodologies (e.g. Agile, SAFe Dev Ops)
  • Relevant industry/sector experience
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
